Teresa Mitchell has worked for Knights Pharmacy for a whopping 31 years. With a passion for merchandising, she is the go to for organising new branches and aims to give all her patient’s excellent advice on the counter. 

“When Knights take on new shops, I go in for a couple of weeks to organise them. I serve on the counter and obviously now because people can’t get in to see the doctor, they come to us,” she explains. Teresa advertises products on a seasonal basis, keeping the area by the till updated. She recently removed the cold and flu medicines that were advertised throughout winter and replaced them with allergy medicines. “Teresa’s shop is always looking immaculate, she always has the shop full of products for our patients, she always puts the customers first,” says nominator and area manager, Myra Gauntlett. “When Teresa is at work, the team don’t have to worry because they know the counter is always covered and our patients are getting the best service.” 

For example, when a young customer came into the pharmacy, she specifically asked for a consultation with Teresa. The patient had used the pharmacy’s needle exchange programme for three years and wanted to thank Teresa for helping her turn her life around, and for making her feel like she was worth something. She had cleaned out her flat to start fresh and wondered if Teresa could help her recycle her old needles. Which of course she did. “It’s nice to be able to advise and help patients and treat everyone with the love and respect they need,” says Alison Curtis, RoE judge and 2021 Spotlight Award winner.
